https://en.ara.cat/opinion/the-racist-course-begins_129_5830558.html

It is clear that our society is largely made up of white people who feel, let's say, uncomfortable living with people of other colors or skin tones. Good people, no doubt, who are alarmed when they go out on the street and find that their neighborhood, or town, has been "filled" - that's their perception - with people of gradually darker pigmentation. The presence of these people makes them feel insecure, even more so if they are poor. This has a name: it is called xenophobia or racism, and also aporophobia. Aporophobic is not a word used in a derogatory sense, but racist or xenophobic is, and for this reason racists get very angry when they are called that. Being many, on the other hand, makes racism cease to be considered anomalous and become a normal, even banal, stance. Many would not go out to chase illegal immigrants through the streets, but they are bothered by an immigrant being ahead of them in the doctor's waiting room. Or that their children have to share classrooms with the children of these immigrants.Consequently, political options based on racism, xenophobia and aporophobia (from people arriving from outside, also from different ethnicities and religions, but with money, they never complain) are multiplying. In Spain, an absolutely electoral course begins and the Popular Party, in the words of Feijóo, has adopted the anti-immigration discourse of the hardest far-right: it already demands mass expulsions including minors, a demand that goes directly against the law – Spanish and European – and which has unsettled the barons of the PP: thus, while in Extremadura María Guardiola and her government speak of “complying with the law”, in Andalusia the moderate Moreno Bonilla gets bogged down in abstruse disquisitions to justify his submission to the government partners of Vox. The request to expel minors is not characteristic of any liberal center-right party, as Feijóo and his PP insist on presenting themselves. Quite the contrary, the neo-Nazi Alternative for Germany could sign it without problems, which by the way is about to achieve a victory in the elections of the state of Saxony-Anhalt on September 6, which would mean a very hard blow and a regression to the worst moments of its history for both Germany and the entire European Union.Obviously, what happens in Spain and Europe will influence Catalan politics, which is not entering an electoral year but a pre-electoral one. Junts, with statements from its general secretary, Jordi Turull, has distanced itself from the far-right and racist Aliança Catalana with a commendable forcefulness. However, within Junts' circle, there are quite a few voices in favor of normalizing AC within the Catalan political system and reaching agreements with it. They justify this by appealing to the need to confront the onslaught of Vox and PP, an ultra-Spanishist bloc that until now they said was a scarecrow but which is now starting to frighten them. They forget, however, that AC does not add up with Catalan independence: it adds up with PP and with Vox, especially with the latter.

A former Spanish president like Mr. Mariano Rajoy cannot make a racist comment in good faith and then hide his head in the sand: "It's a minor issue," he let slip.. Absolutely not. A racist comment is not a minimizable issue. The very act of trying to ignore it shows a lack of sensitivity to the issue. In reality, Rajoy has given vent – consciously or unconsciously – to a banal racism that is still very present in Spanish society today. You only have to go to football stadiums to hear the insults many players receive.

Let's take as an example the statement by the no less well-known M. If having players of immigrant origin or diverse ethnicities means that a team is not made up of citizens of that country, and (minor premise) the Spanish team has players of immigrant origin, such as Lamine Yamal or Nico Williams, the conclusion can only be that Spain is also playing in the World Cup without Spaniards.

Looking at crime data, one can conclude that they are. Or, at least, sufficiently so. However, there is an increase in the perception of insecurity and a feeling of fear when going out at night or walking down certain streets, especially among young women and the elderly. Marta Murrià, head of the urban coexistence and security area at the Institut Metròpoli, states that between 15% and 20% of residents in the Barcelona metropolitan area feel insecure, but, even so, more than 60% of the population does not change their behavior or routes, even if certain places or times may trigger alerts.“The feeling is not only related to the number of crimes or being a victim; there are other factors that explain it,” continues the expert, who gives the example of residents in the neighborhoods along the Besòs strip, who express the most insecurity, despite not always being areas with a high crime rate. Murrià was responding to the debate on security and coexistence in neighborhoods raised by Confavc (Confederation of Neighborhood Associations of Catalonia), during one of the conferences it periodically organizes to gauge the "malaise" of the neighborhoods. “Things are starting to happen in the neighborhood,” summarized one of the attendees to warn that far-right discourses are taking root, fueled by difficulties in paying for housing and an economic and social crisis that ultimately generates coexistence problems. Some of these factors were pointed out by sociologist Murrià, and that Anna Almécija, a criminologist, also related to poor urban planning.Almécija is a member of the Catalan Association for the Prevention of Insecurity through Environmental Design, which analyzes whether the design of spaces facilitates crime. The expert points out that it is more than proven that there are elements that favor "natural surveillance" of the neighborhood. These

At least it was for Kathryn Stockett (Jackson, 1969). The writer grew up in Mississippi, where she has set her only two novels. Of the first, The help (2009; Criadas y señoras in the Spanish edition by Maeva), she sold 15 million copies and it became an Oscar-winning film. Sixteen years later, she has published El club de les indomables (Columna), translated into Catalan by Núria Parés Sellarès. It has not been an easy process for her to write this story about a group of white women who do whatever it takes to survive during the Great Depression in Mississippi and titled The calamity club in English.

Indeed, after a night of riots in Southampton, he went as far as to predict more violence if "a large number of white youngsters think the police are prejudiced against them."
