In fact, power systems have often been built on fake news transformed into undeniable truths, which have generated various mechanisms of submission and domination. The entry into the world of digital communication, with its immense capacity for propagation, has led us to a moment in which the use of... fake news It's so overwhelming that it operates like a kind of parallel reality, leading to great confusion. To the point that those who have made it their way of being in the world risk being caught in the contradiction, which is what's happening to Trump with his back-and-forth statements, which are increasingly exposing him. So much so that sectors of the Republican Party that until now had lived in his shadow are asking him to end the war because they realize that the presidential fabrications are rapidly losing credibility.

Ten years ago. Donald Trump himself—the winner of those elections—is the creator of the meme. His communication exacerbates the spectacular nature of politics and is based on polarization as content in itself. The creation of these memes was done without restraint, without inhibitions or denials, to an exponentially higher degree than usual, and in a way that has become the style of many parties that take Trump as their communication model—or rather, the school of Steve Bannon, his then-chief strategist.

On Tuesday morning, November 25th, at the La Mercè Cultural Center in Girona, the awards ceremony was held for the teenagers from the seven primary and secondary schools in the city of Girona who illustrated the special edition of the newspaper on November 20th, coinciding with World Children's Day. Specifically, the young people from Girona signed the articles of the supplement Girona Regions last ThursdayThe publication, comprised entirely of articles, illustrations, and opinion pieces written by teenagers from 5th grade to 4th year of ESO (secondary school), from the participating schools: FEDAC Sant Narcís; Montessori; and the Montilivi, Jaume Vicens Vives, Maristas, Mediodía, and Ermesenda high schools. At the awards ceremony, held for the second consecutive year in Girona, all the teenagers were able to read their own work and received a copy of the 20th edition of the newspaper as a gift. Accustomed to screens and getting their news that way, they consulted the papers repeatedly, something they had likely rarely done before, delighted to see their work recognized in a traditional print publication.

The first is to defend oneself using legitimate arguments, that is, by providing evidence to neutralize the accusation. The second, however, involves questioning or denying the accusation. A real and fairly recent case: someone claimed that a politician had included an academic degree on his resume that was actually falsified, and thanks to this, he obtained a professional position that wasn't his. The clearest and most honest response seemed obvious: provide said document, or admit that it didn't exist. All other actions to refute what someone has said—including, in this case, an alleged suicide attempt—are worthless, no matter how spectacular or even dramatic they may be. There is another old way of neutralizing criticism: using fallacies, whether basic and predictable or more sophisticated. One of the most common is the infantilizing one. tu quoque (in Latin, "you too"): "Are we corrupt? And you, eh? Don't you remember, the case such and such..." Another very common one is the accusation ad hominem, that is, it doesn't take into account the content of the criticism but instead attacks the person who made it, and in this way it thinks it can avoid it. The list would be very long and it moves according to trends. For example, for years what is ironically known as reductio ad hitlerum (The phrase was coined by Leo Strauss, by the way.) It consists of criticizing something simply because Hitler advocated or practiced it. "Hitler was a vegetarian, a teetotaler, and a non-smoker; therefore..."

Instead of showing on-screen photos of cars crammed into the riverbank, the Argentine news program depicts the downpours with the Onyar River, at the height of Girona's iconic colorful houses, filled with cars swept away by the force of the river. What Argentines perceived as just another piece of news, for Girona residents—when the video spread on social media—was a demonstration of the extent to which images generated by artificial intelligence can alter our perception of reality and generate misinformation.
