This year, the feminist movement sought to confront the reactionary wave and warn of the rise of the far right and conservatism, which sends messages contrary to human rights that until now were thought to be inviolable. "I'm out for the same reasons as always, but now it's more necessary than ever: the world, what has happened and what may happen, is frightening," explains Teresa, one of the 24,000 demonstrators – according to estimates by the Barcelona City Police – who took to the streets of Barcelona.

The two incidents are not believed to be related, although they occurred five days apart in a town of just over 3,000 inhabitants. Municipal sources admit that the town is shocked, and the City Council has called for a protest this Friday at 6 p.m. in the Plaça Major (Main Square). The first sexual assault took place on the night of February 26-27 at a residence in the town. A young woman, over 18, reported that she had been assaulted by a young man. The Mossos are already investigating this case, which has not yet resulted in any arrests. Initially, it appears that the complainant and the alleged perpetrator knew each other. The second assault occurred this Wednesday night on the street in a residential area of Sant Joan. The victim is a middle-aged woman who, according to her report, was assaulted by a young man. The assailant allegedly held her captive and threatened her with a knife, which caused several cuts. During the assault, the man allegedly groped her, but the woman managed to escape and call emergency services. The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for superficial cuts.

According to the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence, it refers to the ability of a group to solve problems and generate knowledge more efficiently than its members separately. As with individual intelligence, it can also be measured. Studies on the collective intelligence quotient (CIQ) have identified various variables that influence a group's ability to solve problems efficiently. These variables include the level of collaboration and communication between members, cognitive diversity, social sensitivity and the degree of inclusion and equality in the participation of people within the group. These same studies have shown that the presence of women significantly increases CIQ, since it favors, among others, social sensitivity and cooperation, key factors for more efficient group decision-making.

A little after 12 noon the demonstration organised by the 8-M Commission started. Umbrellas and raincoats have been the allies of the thousands of people, the vast majority women, to resist the rain that fell and that although it has made it difficult to start the march, it has not stopped it. Little by little, the demonstrators have gone up Paseo del Prado with slogans such as "We feminists are here" and have headed towards Plaza de Cibeles. Once there they have crossed Gran Via, one of the main arteries of the city, to be able to finish the demonstration in Plaza Espanya. According to the first calculations of the organisation, more than 80,000 people attended the demonstration. "Rain or snow, feminists move," was heard at one point during the demonstration.

It's our day! We have to give ourselves the voice that we don't usually have to, strategically, clean up the image of the preponderance of women giving their opinions everywhere. When more than three men coincide in front of a microphone doing a football analysis, it is an extreme modernization. At least, we have reached 2025 making female bosses, programme directors and editors realise that, even if it is for hygiene reasons, it is something ugly that there is not a minimum presence of men. Until very recently, these women who occupy positions of power by system, did not see that a corporate photo without any men could grate.

In the dossier we speak with activists, professionals and scholars who, from their different fields, maintain positions on such relevant issues as cyberbullying or labor or reproductive rights. We also look at what is happening abroad, with the cases of the United States, Iran and Afghanistan, Korea and Argentina.

At that time, we thought that the great wave that was beginning to rise would be the unstoppable wave, the definitive one. It was the great wave. The streets were filled with collective indignation and revolution. The wave rose imposingly. The entire world was bathed in a movement that came from afar, waves that broke down walls to make way for the women who came behind. But those of us who came came up against more walls, the old ones that had not yet fallen. And, like our predecessors, we stumbled against the foundations, against the pillars of the patriarchy rooted in the planet, as if there were no other possibility of life than violence and systematic discrimination against women; against this social organization that still prevails, the one that men decided how it would be, not only without asking the opinion of women but prohibiting women from having an opinion. And then they called them naive. On this disastrous pillar a new world order is now growing, one that is older than walking. With women leading the extreme right so that we can hear: "Women, when they are bad, are much worse than men." In pain, it is clear that we are well valued. It is curious. But as a curiosity, I will say that feminism defends equality. And we already feel bad that women have to be equalized by the extreme right and not by the left, but feminism does not make women good or bad. Nor does it make women better than men. The people who think that when we are bad, we are worse, are the same ones who believe that feminists are a pain. They are the same people who maintain that one in two women has suffered sexist violence in Spain because they provoke it, that feminicides are perpetuated because jealousy kills and that the wage gap increases because women do not want positions of responsibility. And we all live in that world.

If rain permits, the agenda is full of rallies and demonstrations in cities and towns throughout Catalonia, as well as a labor and care strike called by the CGT union at workplaces. The novelty in Barcelona is that, for the first time, there will be two demonstrations, as has been the case for years in Madrid. This is due to the division of feminism over issues such as the regularization or abolition of prostitution and the rights of trans people. We explain the routes of the mobilizations and review the history of the movement. International Women's Day.

According to the latest data, the female presence on the boards of directors of Ibex35 companies is less than 25%. However, the European Commission has established that, by 2026, at least 40% of the members of the boards of directors of listed companies must be women. In general management positions, the figure is even lower. We spoke to some of the fashion designers and executives who are leading a change towards equality in the sector.
