In a conversation with journalists at the UB before the presentation of the book 'Atraco a la memoria' about his political life, written by the historian Juan AndradeAnguita has shown himself convinced that "But he doesn't want independence", but one "free associated state" in the Spanish State, with which they even share the King as head of state.

This time they preferred to avoid each other and keep their own profile, but the three - Pablo Casado, Santiago Abascal and Inés Arrimadas - participated yesterday in the rally against Pedro Sánchez's government's plan to pardon Catalan political prisoners. Formally the act had been called by the civil platform Unión 78, but the three right-wing parties had publicly supported. In addition, the platform's leaders, including Rosa Díez, Fernando Savater and María San Gil, are closely linked to politics.

However, it is impossible to know how accurate the data are because there is no review mechanism. The Generalitat and the Catalan Parliament admit that no body tracks whether public officials report their properties in full. Nor do they ask for documentation to prove the belongings they report because, they say, the "principle of trust" prevails. The Spanish Parliament and Senate also take the information on trust and do not verify declarations. "The lack of verification procedures makes it a weak system to promote integrity and prevent corruption," says Agustí Cerrillo, professor of administrative law at the UOC.

In the absence of a firm resolution from the Madrid High Court of Justice, everything points to the Community of Madrid holding elections on May 4. Elections and not a motion of censure, and this implies a substantial change in the playing field. What the court has done is not to accept the precautionary measure requested by the Madrid Assembly to suspend the electoral call signed by the regional president. It is a first triumph for Isabel Díaz Ayuso and, with the electoral machines of all parties already in motion, it is hard to imagine that the court will rule otherwise. We can already see how PSOE and Ciudadanos' strategic move can leave them both empty handed: there is no motion of censure in Murcia and, for now, there will not be in Madrid either.

The casualties are beginning to be counted within Ciudadanos, with an Inés Arrimadas who has committed harakiri due to a lack of internal leadership and an inability to foresee the intensity of the movement in Murcia, where her people have betrayed her unceremoniously.

And its first steps suggest that what until yesterday was a stable relationship based on coalition governments has now become an attempt at a hostile takeover bid against Ciudadanos. The attack is in the form of swallowing its electorate and its leaders. This Wednesday Teodoro García Egea, secretary general of the PP, already opened the door "to all the militants and leaders of Cs defrauded with Arrimadas", and this Thursday Díaz Ayuso herself has stated on esRadio that "if there is the possibility" she will try to "count on" people from Ciudadanos, the orange party, in her electoral list.

The Popular Party (PP), Ciudadanos (Cs) and Vox would need the votes of the Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) to try an alternative to a pro-independence coalition and, even so, they would not get the necessary 68 seats. En Comú Podem has guaranteed they would not facilitate a government in which Vox participated. Therefore, a constitutionalist government agreement is, according to the polls, practically impossible and the struggle between the PP, Cs and Vox, but also the PSC, boils down to who ends up leading the alternative to independence. The socialists are ahead and, therefore, are drawing all criticism. The PP and Vox have even said they will veto Illa's investiture. The PP has opted for a constitutionalist consensus candidate, who could be a socialist but not Illa.
