An elderly woman has died and another person is missing in the massive fire that has been raging since Tuesday in Occitania, specifically in the Ribauta area, a town located between Narbonne and Carcassonne. The blaze has already affected 16,000 hectares and has become the largest in France so far this century. In fact, according to French media outlet BFM, it is the one that has burned the most hectares in the country since 1949. The fire has left at least 13 people injured, seven of them French firefighters working to extinguish the flames. The fatality is an elderly woman from Saint Laurent de la Cabrerisse, who "did not leave her home when she should have," explained Narbonne's sub-prefect, Rémi Recio, on Wednesday. In the same municipality, the fire has caused two injuries, one of them extremely seriously, and one person is missing.

"I have lost everything: I had old photos and mementoes of my parents and family, clothes, two very large aquariums, also a miniature train line I was assembling with 40 engines... My whole life has gone up in flames". At 3.50 am, the neighbours living in the block of buildings between València, Avinguda de Roma, Calàbria and Rocafort streets in Barcelona were awakened by a loud explosion. The deflagration started in a bar, but has generated fireballs that have spread up the building's façade and inner courtyard, which have also caused small fires in apartments in nearby properties. In total the fire has affected eight buildings. "We heard a clap of thunder thunderclap and I saw that a window had fallen out of its frame. A deadly fire broke out last night in a care home for the elderly in the Valencian town of Moncada (L'Horta). It has left a balance of six deaths, aged between 67 and 95, and 15 people injured of varying degrees after the flames destroyed an entire wing of the nursing home.

A new fire has broken out in the Montgrí massif in Empordà this Thursday afternoon, which firefighters are already working on extinguishing. The emergency services were alerted around half past six and, according to the first reports, the flames are burning in a wooded area. The fire started in Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà) next to the area known as the Casa del Guarda. Twenty ground crews and seven air crews (two helicopters, two bombers and three surveillance planes) are working to extinguish the fire.
