The calm of the last few days will continue over the weekend, as we find ourselves under the effects of the Azores high. However, tails of very worn-out fronts associated with powerful and distant Atlantic storms will continue to arrive, causing small changes. For example, on the night from Saturday to Sunday, some showers will fall between the Costa Brava and the Barcelona coastline, as well as on the north face of the Pyrenees. For the rest of the day, variability will dominate, with a cooler atmosphere, while on Sunday, the sun and tranquility will prevail everywhere and the atmosphere will be milder. In short, typical autumn weather awaits us, with Atlantic dynamics and ups and downs in the thermometers.

Both today and in the coming days, the weather will remain changeable, as, although high pressure and sun will dominate, we will continue to be under the indirect effects of some Atlantic fronts. In short, the sky will continue to undergo changes, but with very little rain in sight. Today, for example, will be a fairly sunny day, but between the evening and dawn, some showers will reappear. Temperatures will experience new rises and falls, but will always remain in check.

After some local and minor showers in the northeastern regions between yesterday afternoon and this early morning, no precipitation is expected anywhere today and it will be a calm day. However, the tail end of an Atlantic front is crossing us, which will cause the sky to be more variable overall and the weather to be cooler. In fact, this morning we woke up to colder temperatures in most regions, and even with frosts that have gained ground in the Pyrenees. No significant new rain episodes are expected in the coming days. The weather will continue to change, with little rain but with intervals of clouds that will come and go. Temperatures will experience ups and downs and will be kept in check, with a full autumn atmosphere and cold nights.

The heavy rainfall storm that affected Catalonia on October 3rd and 4th could have been much more than an episode of strong storms. An analysis published on the official blog of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) points out that the powerful mesoscale convective system that developed off the Catalan coast showed signs compatible with an attempted formation of a tropical cyclone, a process that "had not been documented until now in the Mediterranean," as highlighted in the same work. In fact, the storm forecasts already indicated the possibility of the formation of a medicane —a Mediterranean mini-hurricane—, although it ultimately did not happen.

No new rain episode is expected, but there will still be some local showers.

Calm has prevailed in most regions in the last few hours, following the rainstorm of the last few days, which has been historic, record-breaking, and tragic in the south of the Valencian Country. Nevertheless, yesterday some afternoon showers were repeated in the Girona regions that left, for example, 14 l/m² in Vilablareix (Gironès). And this morning, above all, what we notice is colder weather, as with a clearer sky, thermometers have been able to drop more at night. It is necessary to dress warmly to leave the house early in the morning. Both today and in the coming days, no new major storms are expected in our area, although the weather will remain changeable and, despite the sun dominating, some local showers will still occur. The atmosphere will remain in full autumn mode.

The rainstorm caused by the DANA Adam and warm maritime winds laden with moisture has affected all the Catalan Countries in recent days. In Catalonia, Monday's round of precipitation left many records of 15 to 50 l/m², but in the Pyrenees, the southern pre-coastal area of Barcelona, and the counties of Tarragona and Lleida, these figures were exceeded, highlighting the 74 l/m² in Ulldeter (Ripollès) or the 70 in Falset (Priorat). In contrast, in the northeastern counties, precipitation has been meager during this episode. All of this will be history this Tuesday, as the sun and calm will gradually prevail everywhere, though still with remnants of clouds and afternoon showers in the northeast and the Pyrenees.

The rains are not giving any respite, and in these last few hours the worst of the storm is punishing the south of the Valencian Country. The regions of La Safor and Marina Alta are bearing the brunt, where the rainfall records of the last few hours are historic and are already approaching or exceeding 600 l/m² in municipalities such as Pego, Oliva, Vilallonga, or la Vall d'Ebo. But Forna, l'Atzúbia (Marina Alta) stands out, the ground zero of the storm, where more than 700 l/m² have already been exceeded, according to data provided by Avamet. It has been raining there since Sunday, but the majority of the liters have fallen during this early morning. These are extraordinary records comparable to those reached during the tragic DANA from two years ago. All of this is causing the overflowing of some rivers - such as the Girona river - and many floods, with hundreds of incidents. A very complicated situation in this area, where a red alert is active and it may still rain heavily throughout the morning.

The 'Adam' DANA and the arrival of humid sea winds have caused very intense storms in the last few hours, with accumulations that in some cases have exceeded 50 or 60 mm and have set some precipitation records (you will find more data at the end of this report). The weather will remain unsettled this Sunday, with widespread but less intense rain, good news for watering many regions in a more gradual way, without the downpours that have affected us regularly this month of October.

We are at the gates of the announced major change in weather. We have experienced the last hours of calm and heat for this time of year, and this weekend the meteorological situation will take a radical turn. It will be from midday and this afternoon when showers and storms will gain ground from south to north in many regions. Sunday will be a gray, rainy, and suddenly colder day. The rain may be heavy and, in some cases, accompanied by torrential downpours that leave significant accumulations in a short time. For this reason, Meteocat has activated an alert for intense rain in many regions, which could leave more than 40 l/m² in just half an hour or more than 90 l/m² in three hours. The warning is red –danger 5 out of 6– in Vallès Oriental, la Selva, and el Maresme.

After many days of calm and weather that is too warm for the time of year, the weather will become complicated this weekend. The anticyclone will move to northern Europe and, at the same time, a storm will form in the Mediterranean. All this will open the doors to the arrival of a pocket of cold air at high altitude coming from central Europe towards the Iberian Peninsula, as well as humid and warm maritime winds towards the Catalan coast. This will clearly increase instability, with the return of rain and a sudden, full autumn atmosphere. The sea water remains warmer than it should be, which can cause the rainfall to be more intense, just as it has been in recent weeks.

The weekend will be marked by a significant change in weather.

The weather remains calm for now, and today there will be few changes, with sun that will continue to combine with some thin clouds, low clouds, and fog. Temperatures will not move much, with an environment again warmer than it should be at this time of year in the middle of the day, after yesterday we touched 30 °C in Ponent. But these will be the last hours of calm and fair weather, as from the weekend on, the maps are confirming the significant change in weather that we have been announcing for days.

The calm weather will continue until Friday, with sun combined with thin clouds and high humidity, which will favor the appearance of new fog and low clouds, especially in parts of Central Catalonia, the coast, and the pre-coastal areas. All this with temperatures that will remain warm for the dates, although they will drop slightly after yesterday's atypical heat peak, which left many highs of 24 to 28 ºC -also on the coast- and almost 30 ºC in the Ebro valley. But this situation is limited, as from the weekend rains and the full autumn atmosphere will return, with a clear drop in thermometers. An anticyclone will settle over the British Isles, and this will allow a pocket of cold air to reach our area which, combined with the arrival of humid and warm maritime winds, will cause a clear increase in instability.
