Following a car accident that dislocated her larynx in 2016, the Navarrese soprano was forced to stop singing for almost six months, until two teachers from Italy, Lisa Paglin and Marianna Brilla, helped her regain her voice. "When you lose your voice, you lose the way you communicate with the world," says Andueza. "However, I learned that singing could be easier and that the voice is an instrument that should last a lifetime." Now the Baroque singer feels "freer than ever" and this year she is one of the stars of the eighth edition of the Espurnes Barroques festival, which takes place in central Catalonia over five weekends from this Friday until June 8.

When a young Ravel wrote the Small antique (1895), Viñes decided to premiere it in 1898, thus beginning a career deeply committed to new musical languages. "Ravel wasn't so gifted on the piano and was expelled from the conservatory, but thanks to it we gained a great composer," explains Màrius Bernadó, curator of the Viñes Year. That premiere, apart from marking Ravel's public debut, consolidated Viñes as a tireless promoter of 20th-century modern music.

However, having performed it in Stockholm to a euphoric, standing-room-only audience is a milestone that he proudly adds to an unstoppable career. After performing with the prestigious orchestras of Hamburg and Berlin, the vocational heart of the Palau de la Música debuted last Friday in the Berwaldhallen, accompanied by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and under the baton of British conductor Daniel Harding. "The truth is that the heart is in a very sweet moment; it's a work we know very well and have performed often," says the director of the Orfeó, Pablo Larraz. The concert will be repeated at the Palau de la Música on May 26 and at the Auditori-Palau de Congresos in Girona on May 27.
