The combination of a mass of warm air and the persistence of the anticyclone have caused us to leave behind an exceptionally warm April across the country, the warmest ever recorded at 104 out of the 122 stations of the Meteocat Automatic Meteorological Station Network, which have over 20 years of data. The head of the Climatology area of Meteocat, Marc Prohom, highlights that this atmospheric pattern has driven warm air from North Africa towards Catalonia, causing such high temperatures in the middle of spring.

A weekend that will be marked by completely spring-like ingredients begins. Mornings will be calm overall, but in the afternoons, cloudiness will increase, bringing irregular showers and storms to the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and nearby areas. In fact, these drizzles will gain extent and strength, and especially on Sunday, they may reach more areas in the northeast and north of Central Catalonia. Locally, there will be some downpours accompanied by hail or sleet, so caution will be necessary if we are in these areas on the weekend, especially if we have planned activities in high mountains. Temperatures will rise and the atmosphere will be warmer, especially on Sunday. All this after a Friday that has already given us many highs of 21 to 26 ºC and some minor drizzles in the Pyrenees.

The cold front that crossed us this Sunday did so accompanied by a thermal drop that has been noticed everywhere and that, in some cases, has sent the mercury plummeting. Temperatures remained quite stable this Saturday, again exceeding 30 °C in a week that has reminded us that summer is fast approaching. However, in a few hours we will go from this sensation of advanced spring to one more typical of late winter, especially in high mountains, where it will snow again. The cause will be the passage of an Atlantic front and the entry of a clearly colder air mass, a situation that will cause showers and a sharp drop in temperatures, which in some cases can be 10 or 15 °C compared to Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures still rose a little more this Friday, causing completely unbridled heat for the season. Temperatures exceeded 30 °C again in Poniente, the Ebro, and Priorat, after it had already reached this for the first time this year on Thursday. The Azores High will continue to guarantee good weather in our area during this Easter week, with sunshine and mild temperatures that will usher us fully into spring, after a few days of strong winds and snow in the Pyrenees. With this weather, you can fully enjoy the snowfall that has occurred in the Pyrenees, where in some cases there is more than 2 or 2.5 meters of snow, a thickness significantly higher than usual at the beginning of April. Mid next week, however, new changes could arrive with more atmospheric instability.

After more than a week with a strong north wind corridor affecting our home, the weather situation will clearly improve just as the most important holidays of Easter begin. The mistral and tramontana still left gusts of more than 100 km/h this Thursday in the north of the country, with a hurricane-force gust of 190 km/h recorded in Portbou (Alt Empordà). This Good Friday the wind will continue to blow at the extremes, but it will clearly decrease and will no longer be news. A wind that will finally calm down completely over the weekend. The Azores anticyclone will finally embrace us and absolute calm and radiant sun will prevail everywhere, with no more squalls or precipitation. Fallen trees, blocked roads and railway lines, and thousands of customers without power. These are some of the effects of the wind that has been affecting northern Spain since early Sunday morning, although the wind has been gradually weakening for several hours. This was confirmed by Civil Protection in a message on social media. In Ripollès, a tree that fell on a high-voltage power line abruptly left 2,900 customers without electricity. Endesa is currently working to remove it. This is not an isolated incident; more than 5,000 customers experienced problems in other areas of Girona due to various issues affecting a total of seven medium-voltage lines.
