The United Kingdom, France, and Cantabria and Asturias in Spain are some of the places where unusual values have been recorded in a heatwave with few precedents, both for its date on the calendar – at the end of meteorological spring – and for its intensity and persistence, with many days widely above the climatic average. Specifically, the night from Thursday to Friday was the one that recorded the highest lows, with the first tropical night of the year in Catalonia (the second earliest since records began). The award for the first tropical night of 2026 goes to Portbou, in Alt Empordà, where the heated tramuntana wind prevented the mercury from dropping below 21.6 °C, values more typical of June or July.

Temperatures remained quite stable this Saturday, again exceeding 30 °C in a week that has reminded us that summer is fast approaching. However, in a few hours we will go from this sensation of advanced spring to one more typical of late winter, especially in high mountains, where it will snow again. The cause will be the passage of an Atlantic front and the entry of a clearly colder air mass, a situation that will cause showers and a sharp drop in temperatures, which in some cases can be 10 or 15 °C compared to Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures still rose a little more this Friday, causing completely unbridled heat for the season. Temperatures exceeded 30 °C again in Poniente, the Ebro, and Priorat, after it had already reached this for the first time this year on Thursday. The weather will remain spring-like everywhere on this final day of Holy Week and we will enjoy a 'dia de la mona' with temperatures more typical of May than early April. Only some changes are expected at the end of the week, with the approach of a front that could bring showers to the Pyrenees and a slightly cooler atmosphere.

The Azores High will continue to guarantee good weather in our area during this Easter week, with sunshine and mild temperatures that will usher us fully into spring, after a few days of strong winds and snow in the Pyrenees. With this weather, you can fully enjoy the snowfall that has occurred in the Pyrenees, where in some cases there is more than 2 or 2.5 meters of snow, a thickness significantly higher than usual at the beginning of April. Mid next week, however, new changes could arrive with more atmospheric instability.

After more than a week with a strong north wind corridor affecting our home, the weather situation will clearly improve just as the most important holidays of Easter begin. The mistral and tramontana still left gusts of more than 100 km/h this Thursday in the north of the country, with a hurricane-force gust of 190 km/h recorded in Portbou (Alt Empordà). This Good Friday the wind will continue to blow at the extremes, but it will clearly decrease and will no longer be news. A wind that will finally calm down completely over the weekend. The Azores anticyclone will finally embrace us and absolute calm and radiant sun will prevail everywhere, with no more squalls or precipitation. Temperatures will clearly rise, with increasingly warm midday. All this after the past few days have once again exceeded 100 km/h in the peaks of the Pyrenees and in Empordà, while the last general snowfall in the Pyrenees has left more than half a meter of new snow at the high altitudes of Alt Pirineu and the north face. Freshly fallen snow that will allow for maximum enjoyment of skiing these days.
