The educational strike called this Tuesday in the Valencian Country by the unions STEPV, Comisiones Obreras, UGT, and CSIF has achieved significant participation from teachers who have also filled the streets of the main cities to denounce the "critical situation" in public schools that are "overcrowded and lacking human and material resources". A discontent that, if negotiations between unions and the administration do not prevent it, could lead to an indefinite strike at the end of May.

This was the condition set by Mónica Oltra to return to the political front line and that her partners from Més —the coalition's sovereignist formation— have accepted, as the former vice-president of the Generalitat Valenciana's closest collaborators explained to ARA. Once the hurdle was overcome, the movements were unleashed and on Saturday Oltra announced that she accepted the offer to be the candidate for the Valencia City Council. A decision that confirmed her determination not to wait for her judicial situation to be resolved. "The times will no longer be marked by a court," the same sources had already told ARA last Septemberannounced last September by the same sources.

The controversy arises when there is doubt as to whether the employee has benefited from any preferential treatment to obtain it. This is the debate that has monopolized Valencian politics this week following the transfer of Vanesa Soler, the partner of the head of the Consell, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, who has moved from the Finestrat City Council to the Valencia Provincial Council. The change has allowed her to establish her residence in the city of Valencia where her sentimental partner also lives.

This was denounced this Friday by the president of CaixaBank, Tomàs Muniesa, during the company's general shareholders' meeting held in Valencia. The executive has held the foreign policy of the United States primarily responsible for this situation, which he has accused of "generating uncertainty". According to Muniesa, geopolitics has become the main threat to the global economy in the short term, while climate change is the main threat in the medium term.

The assembly of the Brotherhood of the Most Pure Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Sagunto has once again rejected changing its statutes to allow women to participate. This decision has deeply upset all those citizens who have been working for years to shed the traditional machismo surrounding the celebration. The Ministry of Industry and Tourism also disapproved and is considering revoking the festival's designation as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. The Ministry of Equality is also considering appealing the statutes for "violating the right to equality and non-discrimination." Regardless of what the authorities do, the Inclusive Holy Week collective, made up of both women and men, has ruled out creating an alternative brotherhood, arguing that the Brotherhood of the Most Pure Blood "is the one in Sagunto." Furthermore, they have announced they will take legal action. Their spokesperson, Blanca Ribelles, details this in the newspaper ARA.

The decision, announced this Monday, aligns with the Public Prosecutor's position, which argued a few days ago that there is no "sufficiently solid evidence or indications" against the former head of the Valencian government. However, it contradicts the opinion of the investigating magistrate, Nuria Ruiz Tobarra, who had requested an investigation into the politician from Alicante for manslaughter, negligent injury, and failure to provide assistance, citing what she described as "negligent inaction." The measure was unanimously agreed upon by the five judges of the civil and criminal chamber. They based their decision on the fact that, during the floods, the PP leader did not hold the position of guarantor of a duty nor did he have specific obligations as required to be investigated for manslaughter by omission. "The President of the Generalitat did not commit an infraction (...) in matters of emergencies because he has no specific duty in this area," the resolution emphasizes. In this regard, it adds that the investigating judge was only able to demonstrate suspicions and not facts with a "solid and objective basis" of conduct that "constitutes a crime."

On the other, there's a gigantic figure of an enchanting odalisque, a captivating magician, or a sardonic pirate presiding over a monumental falla, but whose connection to current events is as tenuous as fog. These two possibilities—a work critical and engaged with its time, and a construction that merely aspires to impress with its aesthetic appeal—represent the two sides of a festival with almost 300 years of history, a festival that has been an instrument of popular expression and social protest, but which those in power have sought to tame.

Mercadona seems to have no limits, achieving a record profit of €1.729 billion in 2025, a 24.9% increase over the previous year's €1.384 billion, which itself represented a 37% rise in earnings. This was explained on Tuesday by the company's president, Juan Roig, during the presentation of results held at the company's headquarters in Paterna, near Valencia. Roig boasted of the record-breaking accounts and, at the same time, criticized Madrid's tax dumping. He stated that he would like "the same taxes to be paid throughout Spain" and described it as unfair "that a cashier in Valencia pays more than one in Madrid." Once again, profit growth far exceeded sales growth, which rose by 8%, from €38.835 billion to €41.9 billion. This gap between revenue and profit performance already appeared in 2024, when sales increased by 9%. Among the reasons for this difference—profits rose by 24.9% while revenue grew by 8%—are, among others, a 16% increase in store orders, a 4% increase in worker productivity, and a 4% increase in energy efficiency. In fact, the result has even exceeded the company's forecast, which twelve months ago predicted sales growth of 3.5%, reaching €40.194 billion. The increase in market share was much more limited, at 0.6%, reaching 28.5%. This is one-tenth of a percentage point less than in 2024, when it rose by 0.7%. For all these reasons, Roig has described 2025 as a "historic" year.

Adding to the controversy over a real estate development that has benefited up to five members of the People's Party (PP), several city council employees, and officials from the Valencian regional government (Generalitat), is the fact that more than a dozen families with multiple members who have been granted apartments reside in the building. Among them are even three siblings and two cousins between the ages of 18 and 24, a particularly striking detail given that the initial steps for the project date back to 2018, which would have required them to register at 14 or 15 years old. The latest information comes from a report prepared by the Alicante Local Police at the request of the court investigating the case. The document reveals that up to 46 of the 140 apartments in the building known as Les Naus have no registered residents, and that many others have one registered resident but "more people" living there. The report also notes that 12 non-allocated individuals reside in six apartments. Furthermore, it points out that 26 mailboxes appear neglected, with a significant amount of uncollected advertising, suggesting that the apartments are vacant. All of this data indicates potential violations because the regulations for allocating apartments require the inclusion of documentation for all cohabitants, stipulate that the allocated apartment must be used as the primary residence, and state that the annual income of the family unit must not exceed €54,600, according to the new limit set by the PP (previously €48,000).

The teachers oppose the Education Ministry's intention to amend the sections of the current curriculum that refer to the unity of the Catalan language and establish the need to study its dialects and literary movements. Specifically, the Popular Party government, in agreement with Vox, intends to remove references to linguistic unity from the document and limit the subject matter to "the dialectal varieties of Valencian" and "the main Valencian authors." This is a key element, given that this document forms the basis from which universities must develop entrance exams for higher education and determine the works that students must know to pass them, a circumstance that, in practice, dictates what is studied in high school.

They are Manuel Baeza, president of the chamber and of the Valencian TSJ; Judge María Pía Calderón, who will be the rapporteur; and Judge José Francisco Ceres. On the table is the request from Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra of Catarroja, who argues that the politician from Alicante should be charged with manslaughter, negligent injury, and failure to render aid. Before deliberating, however, they must receive the arguments from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the defense, and the plaintiffs, who have until Monday to submit their submissions. Sources close to the case have told El Ara that the three judges are "very conservative" and have emphasized that Baeza and Ceres belong to the right-wing Professional Association of Magistrates. Others, on the contrary, have pointed out that, beyond their ideology, they are "very technically prepared" judges to assume such a crucial role. We now take a brief look at their careers. The most senior is Manuel Baeza, who assumed the position of president of the Valencian High Court in 2025. However, he had already been serving as interim president for some time following the retirement of his predecessor, Pilar de la Oliva. Beside him is José Francisco Ceres Montes, best known for leading a significant portion of the investigation into the Valencian branch of the Gürtel corruption case and, in 2009, for his controversial decision to dismiss the case against Francisco Camps for bribery in the well-known "suits case." This decision was overturned by the Supreme Court, which issued a strong rebuke to Ceres's actions. Conversely, two years later, he reopened the investigation and brought dozens of former Valencian PP officials implicated in the corruption scheme to trial. Ceres and Calderón also served as rapporteurs for several dismissals of complaints against former Socialist president Ximo Puig and Health Minister Ana Barceló regarding the measures adopted during the coronavirus pandemic.
