For years, Barcelona has been pursuing an objective that is as necessary as it is unquestionable: to confront the climate crisis by reclaiming space for green areas. Superblocks, new green axes, park expansions, green roofs, and the renaturalization of streets are part of a strategy that seeks a healthier, more resilient, and livable city. The benefits are evident: less pollution, lower temperatures during heatwaves, more biodiversity, and a better quality of life.

The Spanish government's decision to expand smoke-free spaces to terraces, beaches, university campuses, and other public areas is excellent news. It's late, but it's here. It is a necessary reform, supported by scientific evidence and consistent with what the WHO and the scientific community have been recommending for years.

For some years now, heatwaves have been more frequent, longer, and more intense. Climate change is no longer a distant threat, but an everyday reality that manifests itself in our streets and squares, and, above all, in our homes.

There are realities that make us uncomfortable. Not because they are new, but because they remind us of what we prefer not to see. Homelessness is one of them. It is not an urban anecdote or an inevitable landscape; it is the symptom of a collective failure, of a society that has normalized that there are people who have nowhere to sleep. And, even more serious, that has begun to design spaces so that they cannot be there.

In the summer of 2023, I published the article "Screens: for all ages and without limits?", in which I posed an uncomfortable but essential question: how is it possible that we have normalized unlimited access to screens, especially during childhood and adolescence, without a deep collective debate about the consequences?
