Borràs, who on Wednesday only retweeted messages she received in support but did not retweet her party's explicit condemnation of the protest, said the action was "totally out of place", but claimed only one person took part, insisting on disassociating the disruption from the dozens of protesters demanding to know "the whole truth" about the terrorist attacks. "You will not find any video where I have greeted this person," she said. Several shouts can be heard in videos of the minute's silence, although most protesters kept quiet.

The institutional act to remember the victims of the 17 August 2017 terror attacks, five years after the tragedy, saw scenes of tension due to a protest by a group of pro-independence activists, some of whom broke the minute's silence with shouts demanding to know "the whole truth", causing the indignation and surprise of the victims and their families.

Two loud protests greeted the conference given yesterday afternoon by Supreme Court judge Manuel Marchena at the Bar Association of Barcelona (ICAB). Hundreds of people – 400 according to the police – gathered outside the building to protest against the presence of the president of the court that tried and sentenced the leaders of the Independence bid. In addition twenty lawyers present at the event, which dealt with artificial intelligence and criminal proceedings and to which journalists were denied access, stood up and left the conference in protest.

In February, Parliament eliminated age-based leave, the system that allowed staff to continue receiving their full salary without working, but left the door open to regulating a similar system based on negotiation with the workers. This Tuesday the Bureau approved the new mechanism, which will have to be validated by a parliamentary committee. It protects exactly the same model which had previously been eliminated: civil servants who have worked for Parliament for a minimum of 15 years will be able to continue drawing their salary despite not working during the last five years before retiring. What changes, then? Basically, the annual amount they will receive. They will no longer receive the amount they would receive if they were working –this will only be the case for people who applied before the rules were changed– and, instead, will receive the same amount as they would if they retired. That is, Parliament will grant paid leave for staff over the age of 60.

The new Catalan language law has been given the green light. The Council of Statutory Guarantees, a Generalitat advisory body, has backed the law agreed by PSC, ERC, JxCat and En Comú to deal with the Catalan High Court sentence which demands 25% of classes in schools be taught in Spanish. The day after the deal was sealed, Vox, Cs and PP forced the law's approval by Parliament to be postponed by asking the Council to give its opinion. The opinion has been adopted unanimously and the Council establishes that the articles questioned by Cs, PP and Vox "do not violate" either the Constitution nor Catalonia's Statute of Autonomy. In order to issue these conclusions, the body has exhausted the period of seven working days granted by its own regulations.

The judge who for a year and a half has been investigating alleged spying on former Speaker and current Catalan minister for Enterprise and Employment Roger Torrent, and ERC Barcelona mayoral candidate Ernest Maragall has provisionally shelved the case, court sources have told ARA. So far this was the only court case open in Catalonia over Catalangate. In fact, the magistrate who is in charge of Barcelona's examining magistrate's court no. 32 still has to deal with complaints for the alleged spying on about sixty politicians, activists and lawyers, some of which were presented by Òmnium Cultural, CUP and lawyer Andreu van den Eynde, which had been sent from one court to another until they too ended up at court no. 32.

This is what Catalan president Pere Aragonès told Spanish president Pedro Sánchez during the three-minute conversation they had at the doors of the W Hotel, in Barcelona, while they were waiting for the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who this Friday will receive an award at the Cercle d'Economia conference. The initial greeting was cold, but later Sánchez sought out Aragonès and they were seen talking and looking serious at a time when relations between the PSOE and ERC have hit rock bottom, in the wake of Catalangate spying scandal, of which the Catalan president was one of the victims.

Almost a month and a half after the unitary agreement for the use of Catalan in schools in response to the High Court ruling that established 25% of classes had to be in Spanish, no progress has been made. The reform of the linguistic policy law agreed by ERC, the PSC, En Comú and also JxCat has been postponed indefinitely. JxCat left the pact hours after it was signed, after it came under fire from associations for the defence of Catalan. The vote has since been postponed three times in parliament, in order to seek a broader consensus before taking it to the vote. Most recently it happened today: after parties decided to give themselves a further fifteen days to negotiate, the board of spokespersons decided to pull the reform from next week's agenda. And this time, according to parliamentary sources, no new deadline for the vote has been set.

If anything marked this Wednesday's parliamentary control session, both in Barcelona and Madrid, it has been the use of Israeli spyware Pegasus to hack into pro-independence leaders' phones. Catalangate, as it is known, has monopolised the discussion in the Catalan parliament, where Catalan president Pere Aragonès demanded Spanish Minister of Defence Margarita Robles's resignation. This came shortly after Robles tried to justify the espionage operation in the Spanish parliament. "The statements make her politically unfit to continue in office. She has said that just because we are pro-independence there is a free hand for them to spy on us. The minister should resign," he said in response to a question from his own parliamentary group, calling the minister's position "insulting" and "extremely serious".

Yesterday, officers from the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit of the National Police (UDEF) searched the headquarters of the Department of Sports in Cornellà City Council of Cornellà and the headquarters of the Consell Esportiu del Baix Llobregat in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, investigating allegations of corruption, as advanced by SER and confirmed by ARA. According to police and court sources, the arrests stem from the Consell Esportiu de l'Hospitalet case, which affects mayor Núria Marín and former Generalitat Secretary of Sports Gerard Figueras. So far the police have arrested at least five people, including Salvador Valls, head of the council's Sports area and former manager of the Consell Esportiu del Baix Llobregat, as ARA has learned.

CUP announced on Monday that Pau Juvillà could not continue developing his usual political activity because he was suffering from a health problem. However, he reaffirmed his will to try to keep his seat despite the electoral board's ruling to trip him of it. This Wednesday, the MP has made public on Twitter that he suffers from cancer, and has done so, he explained, with the aim of breaking the "taboo" about the disease even though this entails exposing part of his "privacy".

After yesterday's meeting with En Comú, Catalan president Pere Aragonès has reached a pre-agreement with En Comú Podem for Catalonia and Barcelona's budget. Aragonès's Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) and Barcelona mayor Colau's En Comú's quid pro quo would allow both administrations to approve next year's budgets. Rac 1 reported – and ARA has been able to confirm – that Aragonès informed the executive council first thing in the morning that En Comú Podem was willing to withdraw its amendment to the totality, while the leader of the Republicans in Barcelona, Ernest Maragall, has also made a move to allow the approval of the city's budget.

President Pere Aragonès, Pere Aragonès, began negotiations with En Comú yesterday to get the budgets through Parliament, after the government's priority partner, CUP, positioned itself against it. This Thursday morning first thing a technical meeting between En Comú and representatives from the Presidency and Economy Departments was held. It lasted from quarter past nine in the morning until almost twelve noon: the secretary general of Economy, Jordi Cabrafiga; the secretary general of the Presidency, Núria Cuenca; and the director general of Interdepartmental Coordination, Marc Ramentol, on behalf of the Government; and the deputies Joan Carles Gallego –who leads the negotiation– and Susana Segovia, as well as the group coordinator, Ximo Balaguer, on behalf of En Comú.

The Catalan Government is pressed for time when it comes to reaching an agreement on budget with the CUP, which has already named its conditions. In the meantime, the possibility of an alternative partner generates misgivings within the ERC-JxCat coalition Government. This was on show this Wednesday in the Catalan Parliament, where president Pere Aragonès asked En Comú to the negotiating table, to JxCat's clear discomfort. JxCat's parliamentary leader Albert Batet hinted that this offer had not been agreed within the coalition. Batet asked the president to be "responsible" and respect the agreements he reached with the three pro-independence parties that voted Aragonès in. Batet also reproached him for opening the door to "non-agreed majorities", in allusion to En Comú, and called on pro-independence forces to find a "shared strategy".

CUP's rank and file have voted against approving the Catalan government's budget but in favour of continuing negotiations. In spite of the anti-capitalist party's disenchantment with the ERC-JxCat coalition, its grassroots has decided to seek to obtain new commitments from the Catalan executive in exchange for passing the budget. In any case, it is a clear warning sign for the coalition, after 63.42% of CUP's members voted in favour of presenting an amendment to the totality of the budget. In the second vote, 68.79% of members voted in favour of continuing negotiations.

The Court of Auditors continues to be the main protagonist of Catalan politics. This Wednesday, a day after the Government approved a fund to deal with the millionaire bails over its Foreign Action, Vox has announced it will appeal against the new law. "Its only goal is to finance the judicial causes of the independentistas. We will not stand still or silent, we will appeal the decree law and we will present a complaint for embezzlement," has reaffirmed the leader of Vox, Ignacio Garriga, who has directly threatened Aragonès: "Your time will soon be up". In fact, Garriga has even said the Catalan Government would end up "in prison". Ciudadanos and PP have also threatened with court action, but have not given more details, although the leader of Ciudadanos, Carlos Carrizosa, has explained that they have already asked the Spanish government to intervene the Generalitat's accounts. The unionist entity Convivencia Cívica - one of the first to appeal pardons - has also asked the Ombudsman to file an appeal for unconstitutionality.
